National Institute of Open Schooling:

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is an autonomous and registered organization established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India with the prime objective to offer academic courses at Secondary and Sr. Secondary levels, including Vocational & Technical Education, and Open Basic Education at three levels (A, B & C) equivalent to Class III, V, & VIII for those who are above 14+ in age. It also provides professional advice to the Government of India and to the States regarding the proper development of Open and Distance Learning System at the School level. Ministry of Human Resource Department, Govt. of India has vested NIOS with the authority to register, examine and certify student register with it upto pre-degree level courses. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has granted equivalence to NIOS courses with those of other recognized Boards for the purpose of admission to higher courses of study at Indian Universities.
